150th Anniversary of the Launching of the USS Monitor

On January 30, 1862, the USS Monitor was launched from the Continental Works located in
Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York. 150 years later on January 28th, 29th and 30th, 2012, there will
be a great celebrationin to honor this historic launching of the USS Monitor, the ship that
saved the Union. We will honor John Ericsson, the inventor, Thomas F. Roland, the builder,
the crew and the Continental Works workers who built the USS Monitor.
The event is a Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War National Sesquicentenial Sigature Event.
The New York Department SUVCW, Oliver Tilden Camp #26, SUVCW, Co. I, 83rd New York Vol.
(9th NYSM) Sons of Veterans Reserve, The Greenpoint Monitor Museum and
the John Ericsson
Society are sponsoring the event. The event is being led by the Oliver Tilden Camp and the
Greenpoint Monitor Museum. Come out and be part of history!!!

Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery
On Saturday, April 17, 2004, Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, NY will celebrate their 150th Anniversary. There will be a full day of activities. At one event, Tilden Camp will hold a Headstone Dedication at the J. L. Riker Post 62 plot. Past Commander George J. Weinmann did genealogical research on 57 Civil War Veterans and their spouses that are buried in the GAR plot. PCC Weinmann with the cooperation of Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery, where able to obtain government headstones for their unmarked graves. Oliver Tilden Camp's ceremony will begin at 10:45 AM. Tilden Camp thanks Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery and the Federal Governmant for their help. For more information on the headstone dedication, please contact PCC George J. Weinmann.
